みんなさん　こんいちは。　わたしの　なまえは　アサード　ムハーマドです。三十九さいです。十九さいのとき、けんちくがくが　すきでしたから、コロンビア大学で、　けんちくがくをべんきょうしました。でも　いま、わたしは　きょうしです。コロンビアだいがくで　びじゅつのれきしをおしえます。　とても　いそがしいですが、たのしいです。ロンドン大学は　コロンビア大学より　ちいさいですが、いい大学です。　わたしの　かぞくは　四人です。こいびととこどもがふたり　います。いぬも　います。コロンビアは　ニューヨークよりだいがくですから、　くるまがにだい　あります。たかいですよ！　まいにち、ごぜん　しちじはんに　わたしのうちを　出ます。くるまで、うちから　大学まで　三十分かかります。　わたしの　ロンドンせいかつは　とても　たのしいですよ。

Thanksgiving/わたしの かぞく

わたしは　とても　大きい　かぞくが　います。わたしの　かぞくに　ちちと　ははと　いもうとひとりと　おとうとさんにん　います。そして、ねこが　います。　十一月二十七日に　わたしのおくにへ　かえりますから、うれしい　です。おくにで　たくさんおいしい　たべものをたべます。そして、わたしの　きょうだいといっしょに　こうえんへ　いきます。

While it has very little global significance, Thanksgiving is an American holiday that means valuable family time. And as a life-long vegetarian, I enjoy a turkey-free, family-filled Thanksgiving holiday.

料理／Cooking

みんなさんは　料理をするのが　大好きですか。子どもの時、料理の学校へべんきょうしにいきたかったです。今、ひまの時に新しい料理ほ（recipes）を作ってみます。それから、秋になるときせつてきな　やさいとくだものと　料理できます。かぼちゃとかなすびなど。。。

よく、私の家ぞくといっしょに料理をします。

料理をするのはたのしいですよ！

Birthdays/おたんじょうびの日

わたしのいもうとのたんじょうびの日は　十一月（じゅういちがつ）１９日（じゅうきゅうにち）です。その日（ひ）にいもうとはきゅうさいになります。いもうとのたんじょうびの日にいわたしといもうとはセントラルパークに行きます。

Being away from home and family for so long a period of time can be a bit depressive. My eight-year-old sister, who's turning nine next month, has asked to come visit me here in New York and I'm very excited about having her here for a time, allowing me a bit of a break from serious college life. Autumnal／秋

あきはわたしのだいすきなきせつ (season) けどでんきはちょっとさむいですね。
せんしゅうの土曜日（どようび）あたらしいセーターとシャーツをかいます。

The fact that midterms and the start of New York's cold weather seasons coincide this year is probably the punchline of the great cosmic joke. For the cold weather clothing, hot apple cider, and pumpkin carving opportunities it provides, I find myself loving autumn every year anyway.

みなさんのすきな きせつ はなんですか。

These are a few of my favorite things...

わたしのすきな (favorite) 日本(にほん)のみせ (store) はユニクロ(ゆにくろ)です。
ユニクロ(ゆにくろ)はふくのみせです。
このみせははじめの (first) ニューヨークのユニクロ（ゆにくろ）です。

As someone with a particular interest in both building design and fashion, the American flagship Uniqlo store is a bit of a Chocolate Factory for me. Sleek Japanese design and brightly colored cashmere take center stage at this popular Japanese response to the American clothing stores Gap and Banana Republic. I don't know which to appreciate more, really: the store itself or the portmanteau that is its name, a combination of "unique" and "clothing."

Priceless (and relatively inexpensive).

Eye Contact (and other customs in a culture of politeness).

Someone once wrote (and it very well may have been Carrie Bradshaw) that the worst thing one New Yorker can do to another is make sustained and unprovoked eye contact. Some New Yorkers have clearly taken this to heart, evidenced by the avoidance of eye contact on all forms of public transportation and in general, daily interactions.

Yesterday (Monday), though, we learned quite a good deal about the importance of both humility and sincerity (and eye contact) in the Japanese culture (the phrase これからおせわになります comes to mind). The idea of this kind of a community, the kind in which you put yourself under the care of your neighbors, and vice versa, is for the most part a foreign notion (no pun intended). And it is certainly foreign in a New York City that is often too fast-paced to remember its manners. Just something I've been considering.

昨日（きのう)「これからおせわになります」をならいました (learned)。
「ほんのきもちです」もならいました。
にほんには、みんなさんは やさしい (kind) ですけど
ニューヨーク（にゅうようく）には、みんなさんはまだ やさしくない。

こんにちは！

はじめまして。私（わたし）のなまえは アサード (Asad)です。
アメリカ（あめりか）人（じん）です。
コロンビア大学（だいがく）の二（に）ねんせいです。
ニュージャージ（にゅうじゃあじ）からきました。
わたしのせんこうは architecture と art history です。
わたしのこうこう (high school) でにほのごをべんきょうしました。

I'm really excited to begin studying Japanese again (after taking a few years in high school and even traveling to Japan to experience the language and culture of such an interesting place firsthand). I'm taking Japanese this year not only to regain a working knowledge of the language, but also to meet some interesting people with a similar interest in the Japanese language.
